There are 3 motorcycle licence options and the right
one for you depends on a few options that you may want to think about. The licences
are:
Compulsary Basic Training (CBT) - This is the starting point for
any biker and a legal requirement for ANY NEW BIKER before you can go on
the public highway on a motorcycle or moped. If you are 16 this is your only available
option and would be giving you the opportunity to ride a moped of no more than 50cc
or a top speed of 30mph. If you are 17 or more then this will allow you to ride
a bike up to 125cc and no more then 15bhp.

A2 Restricted Licence - The A2 Restricted Licence is the standard
motorcycle licence course. This is known as a restricted course as on completion
you are entitled to ride a bike with no more then 33bhp (something like an unlimited
250cc bike) for 2 years, after this the restriction is removed automatically and
you are able to ride any power machine. This course will be taken on a 125cc geared motorcycle, this starts
with completing the CBT course if you do not have a valid certificate and then going
on to do an A2 course to get you ready to take the full motorbike test with the
DVLA. This licence is only for people at least 17 years old and will also require
the completion of the DVLA theory test.

Direct Access Scheme (DAS) - The DAS course is only available for
people over the age of 21 and is the option to complete the motorcycle licence and
avoid the 2 years restriction on the power of the machine that you can ride as you
would be on the A2. The DAS Course is therefore completed on one of Bike Smarts
500cc motorbikes.
